King's College Hospital clinical transformation update - digital assessment of diabetes foot ulcers

Early Adopter Experience

King's College Hospital Diabetes Foot Clinic

The Diabetes Foot Clinic team at KCH undertook exploring digital wound imaging, 3D wound measurement and electronic data capture (Silhouette system, ARANZ Medical) four years ago in 2012, initially recognising the value of this innovative technology for their clinical research programme. Subsequently the team has achieved the following progress with adoption of this digital technology:

  • During 2014/2015, KCH Diabetes Foot Clinic has gone live with implementing digital wound imaging, 3D wound measurement and electronic data capture in their routine out-patient clinic for managing patients with diabetes foot ulceration.
  • The team is using the digital wound assessment approach to support clinical decision making, treatment planning, documentation and capture of clinical activity and DFU outcomes data.
  • An update on the team's experience and results has recently been presented at the SAWC Spring 2015, EWMA London May 2015 and ISDF The Hague Netherlands May 2015.
  • Further updates and publications are planned to share the team's learning and results with the health professional community.
